My wife reads this to my 9 mos old every night and it's one of the few book he'll sit through. He even helps turn the pages, when he's not trying to gum them lol.
My one year old loves the first little Blue Truck book so we were so excited to purchase this one! I'm sad to say it misses the mark in many ways. The first one had a majority of happy, positive interactions with just one mean guy. This one is ALL mean guys. Pages and pages of negativity and mean looking drawings. We were disappointed.
A huge disappointment compared with the previous book. Too many pages of unvaried material, doesn't have the cute factor of the other one (no animals), and the story doesn't make sense and is very convoluted compared with the other one. If you're looking for a good sequel to the Little Blue Truck, this is not what you're looking for.
My son LOVES Little Blue Truck so I ordered this one for his birthday. It's an OK book but doesn't flow like the original. The beginning of the book it starts real nice like the original but then it starts to change. Maybe because it's longer than the original, that's why it doesn't flow as easily? I'm not sure. At the end of this one, Little Blue doesn't end the book with his trademark 'Beep Beep Beep' so that was disappointing. That's my sons favorite part. So when I read this to him I say the beep, beep, beep even though it's not at the end.
It was always going to be very tough to write a better book then the first Little Blue Truck book. This one certainly takes a little while to warm up to, but there's no doubt you will like it after a while. It references different types of cars doing different actions in the city traffic (a little more advanced then just the animal sounds of the first book) and has another moral undertone about doing things "one at a time - is the way to go" - frankly I refer to it when my son tries to rush around or tries to eat too much too quickly. The message actually works quite well for him aged 23 months. I have given it three stars because I know it will take you a while to warm up to it.
It's my son's favorite book. We read it every night (since I got it for him) before bedtime.I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I agree with one of the reviews that the book has so much negativity specially the illustrations. My son noticed that and kept saying the word "angry" while flipping pages until he reached the last 2 pages and then said "happy". The anger is strong in the illustration; I wished it had less angry vehicles. The story itself is not bad but the illustration makes it more negative.
This is a happy, rhyme-y book that my grandson absolutely adores. I have purchased ALL of the Little Blue Truck books (which includes a sticker book) that are out there and I can't help thinking that the authors are missing out on a sure thing by not merchandising the little blue truck. If there was a pillow version of it, my grandson would sleep with it. If there was a Christmas tree ornament of it, it would be his very favorite. And of course if there was a toy little blue truck with all the attendant animal friends; he would be thrilled. See where I'm going with this?
My two-year old twins love the Little Blue Truck and since the first book was such a hit, I had to buy the second. The story isn't as good as the first book (most reviewers agree)... but the dialogue from the other vehicles in the story is just plain rude and nasty. I originally gave this book three stars, as my twins love the whole country truck goes to the big city plot.... but each time I read it, I dislike it more and more. I will not read it as is. I have changed the story and eliminated the nasty stuff, but you still see the nasty faces on the other vehicle characters in the illustrations. Just a major disappointment that this could be considered appropriate language and message for such young children.
I LOVE the Little Blue Truck books. My 2.75 year old granddaughter loves them as well. She helps me "read" by saying "beep" when Blue speaks (I touch her chest and she then knows to "beep"). The stories teach lessons. The artwork is fun and bright. We now have all three books and I even bought the sticker book which she will get at her 3rd birthday. I hope the author and artist continue with more books. LOVE them!!!
