The book instilled great respect for the women who fought for equality on the playing fields. Babe was amazing. Her name and reputation were familiar, but in the book her personality, talents and challenges were explained. Highly recommended.
Bought so my child could write a book report on this great female athlete, but she chose another athlete this year. Maybe next year. Will put in library so she might consider it for future school reports!

My first kindle book and it was great!
and i am incredibly disappointed i even wasted my money on it. babe diedrickson is one of my heroes and i couldn't even get halfway through this piece of trash. i'd rather have spent money on a harlequin romance.
This book was great and a new movie should be made from it. The one I saw on The Golf Channel sure didn't do The Babe any justice. If one likes sport and competing and looking for virtue in dedication and drive, one need not look any further. There is no other athlete that has performed like Mildred Ella Didrickson Zaharias, period. No sport was unattainable, no stage was beyond self-promotion, and if there's any athlete that wants a formula for success and a formula to promote their sport or their public persona, you must read this book. It should be a must for any girl who has any professional golf membership. Wanna know why the LPGA's tournament schedule and ratings might be down? Answer, because you are not like The Babe, simple as that. Even though she was selfish like most athletes can be a times, I found her brutally honest and forthcoming to make the book much more inviting and entertaing. Kudos only to some great research by the author for that. Not only does it portray a great sports hero, that should be on everybody's top list, it portrays a great history of America and basically how sport and America works. This book was good from beginning to end, and the phrase she uttered to husband the night she passed away, is worth the price of admission on it's own. Have a good read.
Why haven't we heard more about this absolutely incredible Babe Didrikson Zaharias? This question resonated in my mind throughout the book. She excelled at every sport she tried. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Ms. Zaharias, her spirit, her competitiveness, her endurance, strength and unrelenting discipline to become the best athlete she could be. While not a page-turner, the book kept me engaged and wonderstruck at her feats and accomplishments, particularly given the times. The author seemed to captivate her personality and one gets to see her a fully dimensional human being.
