Christians that want to read Christian novels sprinkled liberally with bible verses are generally thrilled to get their hands on anything that isn't completely unreadable. In other words, we are not picky in our desperation for some faith building entertainment. If you are deciding to buy this or not, you could do worse about writing style and adventure and plot and you could do better. Overall, there is one disturbing element that as a Christian reader I probably can't get past. In my case I regret getting hooked on the story and continuing to read for the spoiler below. If you don't want to know some of the plot, stop reading hereI've watched a budding romantic relationship between one of the protagonists named Brian and Jacqueline--it started in the earlier novels when Brian was the shoulder to lean on for a women widowed before his eyes. Problem is that Brian is about to pop the question to his girlfriend of 5 years.Brian, in his new found Christianity is craving time with the spiritually minded recently widowed Jacqueline instead of his shallow materialistic girlfriend of 5 years. Because Shallow Renate is the jealous type (it seems for good reason) Brian is sneaking around behind the girlfriend's back, rather than ending the relationship, he's found a soul mate in the new widow. He explains to the widow he is sneaking around with that he wouldn't have to sneak around if Renate was open to the gospel. Jacqueline seems to think that is a perfectly acceptable reason to continue to sneak around. Those two can smugly go on their way while Brian spends several hours one night "cuddling on the couch" with Renate, and as soon as she leaves because he tells her he has to go to work early, he calls the widow. She immediately comes over.Reading bible verses, eschatology, evangelistic ideas with the sneaking around because Renate is a spiritual dud is like combining light and darkness. For the last 2 books I keep hoping that Brian will either spell it out to Renate that he is he found his new love interest and its time to part ways so he can move on, and vice versa. Its the humane thing to do.As this subplot is woven into the story I wonder about all the men and women in the name of finding someone with more spiritual depth had to "sneak around" on their fiance, or wife, or girlfriend of 5 years? The scandal of a pastor that had his wife killed so he could marry his spiritual soul mate comes to mind here.This is a type of evangelism too, the type that if the person you've lead on for 5 years no longer is enough for you, you can continue to lead her on while forming an intimate emotional connecting to your next partner . The message that the unethical, inhumane treatment of another human being is acceptable and normal, and Christian makes me wonder about the morality being imparted in this book Light and darkness combined, makes things muddy. I keep reading hoping that Brian is convicted about the immorality of leading 2 women on about his intentions while on fire as a new Christian,. The math doesn't add up here.This is the problem with Christian fiction--the consequences Brian would be facing in real life for his rationalization that he has to "sneak around" with the widow because Renate are missing. A pastor that tells Brian, a household will be divided girlfriend against boyfriend because of Christ, makes it seem as if the at best unethical personal choices, at worst immoral, he is making seem okay. After all, they are talking about Jesus, its just the girlfriend doesn't know as soon as she left Ms Right is coming over to talk about Jesus with her boyfriend of 5 years. (and she is not being informed) Hey its just the cost of doing intimate relationship business with a Christian, get with the spiritual program or get kicked to the curb without being informed you are being replaced....Its hard to get into this book with that the triangle going on in the background, and watching it get justified is appallingly anti-Christ in and of itself. Fruit of the spirit doesn't usually involve deceiving the person that you've been with for 5 years whither they "deserve" the dishonorable treatment or not.
Ok. I'm hooked. Book one was good. Book two was better. Book three was outstanding. A new global leader has appeared basically out of nowhere to lead the world as they 'recover' from the Rapture and its' after affects. He comes at a time when earth is in desperate need to be led into an unknown future. This fellow is too good to be true, and you know what is said about that. The book continues on in the personal lives of some of those left behind, including skeptics as well as those that professed Christ but were left behind. Unfortunately, it appears book four hasn't been written yet. All I can say is "Bring it on. I'm ready."
WOW!!! Patrick Higgins is my favorite author. I love his style and all the books he writes . I pray people take the time and do themselves a favor and read this series. Don't wait to read the series and don't wait to be saved by Jesus Christ. Jesus will get you through and save you because He loves you it is that simple Jesus loves you.
The plot of the series is right out of today's headlines. The story is totally believable, which makes it both exciting and terrifying at the same time. I found that parts of the story were a little slow in places, but this did not impact the overall storyline. Patrick continually reminds the reader of the joy that only GOD is capable of providing, particularly during this time of turmoil and that HIS LOVE AND GRACE will sustain each of us if we will turn ourselves over to him completely. The editing mistakes is the only reason to be unhappy with this series. Otherwise, everything is great!!! This is a wonderful read. This series is Bible based, it follows the scriptures, but it sets everything in today's time. There are great scriptures in here to highlight in your bible and re-read and research later. Most of all, get your soul ready for His return. Well, I need to start book four now. Enjoy.
I have read all three books and can't wait until the next one comes out...When will it be out??? They are great! Must read and you just can't put down type of books...Wow is all I have to say! Patrick Higgins you have quite the way with words and character development... It leaves one wanting more and sad that the next one isn't available yet... I need to find out what happens with the characters...When is the next series going to be done???
The pain, fear ,and sadness is palpable. Resources are disappearing, safety and peace gone. I am hooked. The connections to bible verses are perfect. Onto the 4th installment.
I really enjoyed this book. The author does a good job of relating where we are now with the coming rapture and how we need to pay attention to the signs in our broken world. Buy it, read it and you won't be sorry.
