This is an awesome book for road-trippers. Crags, small and large, are listed by state and rated 0-5 stars on how great it is. Even tiny crags are usually listed. A short paragraph description is included for each, describing the type of climbing. The book is old-ish but not outdated, although some new spots have of course cropped up since its publication. The only thing you need to check on is closures because some places are listed as closed but are now open. I'm really happy with this thorough encyclopedia. When passing through any state you can check to see what's there.
This was a gift to my rock climbing daughter. She was happy with the book. She said it was outdated because rocklocations are added and there are some that become unavailable. She still thinks it might come in handy. The premise is a good one and I would suggest that you buy a later edition.
This is a great resource for finding out what is out there in Mexico, Canada, and everything in between. Finding out how to get to the actual climbs and knowing what you're getting on is different. However, if you're really into adventure and onsighting, what do you need lengthy route descriptions for?
Easily the definitive road trip guide for the country. With the growth of the climbing community since its last printing it could use an update, access issues are such a constantly changing thing that there could be a national update every year.. Anyway, great book, worth it for any climber anywhere in the country!
Climbers expect more from a Falcon Guide, Last edition 2002. Incomplete and very out of date.
This book gives a very vague description of each area. I would not start climbing routes based on the description provided. Not all directions to climbing areas are correct. I did a cross country trip in August 2010 and thought this book would be a great resource...I WAS WRONG. Save yourself some money and do some internet research on possible climbing locations for areas you will be visiting.
Excellent guide, Has very basic info on where and what to climb.
All good!
