This is quite handy to have on a phone or tablet for quick reference at the loading bench..It's relatively easy to navigate and search for particular cartridges. I really don't have any complaints about the e-book. It has the same information contained in the Hardback 10th edition book..one thing I particularly like is the inclusion of 5.56 NATO service rifle data..The data itself is laid out in an easy to read format, with plenty of anecdotal information on the various cartridges as well as little tips and cautions..Hornady does not indicate the "most accurate" charge nor do they give the actual velocity, but this is all subjective to any particular rifle anyway, so not really a big deal. All in all, this is a great source of data for Hornady bullets with several powders listed in just about any cartridge you can think of. If you have the 9th edition, you really won't be gaining a whole lot of new data.
My first reloading manual was purchased in 1985. The Hornady 3rd Edition. I've purchased several other manuals since, but always considered the Hornady the top of the line. Looking through the Kindle version, I'm struck by a few of negative things first- 1 navigating on an iPod can be cumbersome Perhaps my version of Kindle needs an upgrade - but none of the sections in the table of contents will collapse, requiring you to scroll through a lot before getting to what you need. The desktop version is much easier. 2- many of the pistols used are identical to the 3rd edition, printed 38years ago. Seems odd. 3- of the few loadings I've compared, the 10th edition seems to be a bit more conservative. In spite of using the identical firearm as Edition 3, loadings are reduced by 8-9%. 4-there are no listings for a "+P" 9mm. Obviously, most of the negatives I've noticed are the result of comparing the new edition to the old. But, overall, the Hornady manual is still top shelf for me. The 4 stars are the result of the navigation issue on the portable devices. My only regret is not getting the hard copy over the kindle version. A product of getting older; no doubt.
Until a few days ago I was able to open this book but not it just crashes the app. I have tried removing the book and downloading it again with no luck. I removed the entire app and downloaded it again and then downloaded the book again and still no luck. The book seems to be incomparable now after the latest Kindle app update. I'm going to try to get my money back.
Great resources for reloading Hornady bullets. For the calibers that I shoot, it offered a good variety of powders to choose from that ran the gamut of powder characteristics. I liked that. It even offered advice as to the best powder for subsonic 300 Blackout loads: "We found that Accurate 1680 worked best for subsonic loads while still cycling the action.*" I found this to be true, at least with pistol length gas carbines (I have only tested these).The velocities are always at variance for me since I almost never have the same test conditions as the book, however, they tend to be close.The book even covers some of the discontinued bullets that you may still have in your inventory such as some of the A-Max's. And you may be happy to find the new ELD and ELD-X bullets somewhat extensively covered as well. One short-coming relevant to me is that load data for ELD-X 30 Caliber (308 Diameter) 220 Grain Boat Tail bullet is not provided for 300 Blackout loads. When I called Hornady (they have great customer support), I was told to use the 225 grain bullet as reference without making any compensation and I'd be good-to-go. Won’t open on a kindle. It isn’t misformatted, it actually puts up a message about not being compatible and won’t open at all.Won’t open in Kindle app on iphone or ipad.They shouldn’t offer it in digital form if they can’t make it work/Haven’t tested it.Look elsewhere.
Downloaded to PC Kindle Reader on several devices without issue.I have been using the hard copy book for reloading, but my portable reloading bench has limited space, and the book occupies a lot of real estate on it.With the Kindle version, I can bring it up on a the PC, laptop or iOS device to either use on the bench, or screen capture and print data I need at the bench without the unnecessary 1000+ pages.PROSHornady quality and depth of information for Hornady productsFrees up workbench spaceData is much easier to handle on the benchAllows printing of only the needed data for reloadingCONS - nothing significant, but -Updated at the same time as the hardcopy, printed 2016, likely with 2015 data.Newly produced bullets/powders may not be included. but should be "findable" online.
All my reloading buddies were telling me this is the best option for new reloaders. I ignored them and used other resources. All my loads turned out okay, but it was apparent I needed some additional reference material. This is without a doubt the best one I've found. Covers a lot of options. Virtually every load I've ever heard of. I'll probably only use 10% of the information in the book, but that 10% has been very valuable. I'm sure experienced loaders will question some of the information, but if you're new or an intermediate loader this is a great addition to your library.
Most complete and newest version. I have found almost everything I have needed from this one manual. I would say the only downfall would be that they pretty much market their projectiles - rightfully so - but I have to cross reference my Lyman 50th edition to double check data if I am using a non hornady projectile... which is quite often. Aside from that this edition really does have a good amount of relevant load data that is fairly accurate. It should be a part of every reloaders library. I own the hardback edition and the kindle edition.
