I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.The only reason this is a 4 star book for me is because it took me a few chapters before I really got in to it but once I did I was hooked. It can get a little confusing but if you stick it out you will read a fabulous story. The characters are well developed and the fantasy is fun. I look forward to reading more from this author because I highly enjoyed her writing style. I will be recommending this book to a few of my friends.
I read Rachel A. Marks' previous Dark Cycle series and loved every page. Sometimes it can be a bit nerve wracking to crack the cover of a new series of a writer you already love, not knowing if it'll live up to the previous series.I was so, so glad that she delivered a story just as intense and exciting!We travel with Sage, a young woman who learns that she is the daughter of the Celtic goddess Brighid (fire) and must learn to control her dangerous powers. Faelan, a son of Cernunnos (the woods, fertility, etc.) who has sided with Brighid, is given the responsibility of guiding Sage in this new world she has been thrust into without any warning.I don't want to give away any spoilers, but there are many twists and turns as Sage comes to terms with who she is, her own journey causes Faelan to have to question the choices of his past and the direction of his future.I cannot WAIT for the sequel!!![Disclaimer: I was given an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review]
I loved this book! The world-building was so rich and interesting, the story kept me hooked from page one, but the characters? They're to die for! Sage is my new fave character! I hope this will be a series and that I'll get to read more stories set in this world.
Another dazzling novel by Rachel Marks. Amazing worldbuilding within our own world. I love how deftly she weaves modern-day L.A. with ancient myths and history. The main characters are both relatable and beautifully flawed, and I thoroughly enjoyed their interactions. I definitely​ recommend!
Sage is on the street, hasn't washed in quite a while, all bones and angles. Surely things can only get better from here. Well ... yes and no. Being a Demi-goddess sounds pretty awesome. But It also comes with a heaping dose of betrayal, confusion, pain and destruction and a dream life that is starting to swallow Sage whole. Can she keep her own identity through all the internicine power plays and bloodshed? Is there any way forward to, just maybe, find happiness?
This is a freaking amazing book. I gobbled it up in three days. Rachel A. Marks delivers on fantastic mythology, vivid characters, and a perfectly-tuned plot. The balance of everything was exceptional. I need book two NOW.
Grabs you from page 1! I'm truly falling hard and loving it. I just added a new author to my favorite list. I was in a funk and just finished a few series and needed something fresh to read. This. Book. Its frikin amazing! I seriously urge you to just buy it!!
A well-told tale that grabs you and takes you through the twisted roads to leave you needing to follow the next part that will follow. Don't miss the ride! I would recommend this book to all those who enjoy twists and surprises in their stories. I am looking forward to the next part of the journey.
