Church Comm is hard. I really needed this book. I love picking it up every morning and just reading a little blurb. No need to read cover to cover or in any kind of order. It really is a bunch of quick little pep talk. Makes me feel like I’m not alone!
This was a breath of fresh air for me as a church communications director! I keep it on my desk and read it when I need a little break throughout the day. It gives so much great perspective and encouragement!
I have worked with church communication directors for over 15 years, and Kelley is one of those people. She understands the challenges of the role, the demands that the role requires, and how to adeptly navigate the responsibilities of the job. This book is exactly what it promises to be: It's a pep talk for church communications folks that offers encouragement and kind words from a friend on tough days. Several times as I was reading, I thought "Yes! I've been in this exact situation a gazillion times." Kelley gets it and offers practical advice and helpful words of wisdom. Her years of experience are obvious as she gives insightful tips and challenging words we all need to hear. I think this is a must-read for anyone handling communications work at a church. Sometime, someday, you'll NEED a pep talk, and this is it.Plus, there are pictures. Lots of them. And haikus.
None of us really feel qualified to do our job. We get overwhelmed and discouraged. But that's OK—because you're not alone. Kelley gets this. She understands the struggle and wants to help. This book is a funny, practical and much-needed pep talk to those of us who work in the church. I can't recommend this book enough, especially since it's much cheaper than therapy.
I'm not a church communicator, but I am a writer and editor familiar with the ins and outs of the church. Kelley's scenarios were all too realistic—and funny. She truly gives some much-needed pep to a communicator who's battling checklists, impostor syndrome, or perfectionism.
This book should be required reading, not only for church communicators but for any team leaders in multi disciplinary environments. It’s witty but hard hitting with advice useful to anyone trying to manage the challenges of both tasks and people.
